Orientation

So this week was my first week @ law school. I don't have a ton to say about it cause I'm generally just really excited to get started but here goes.

Wednesday:
We all arrived and found our way to our small sections. For those not in the know, in your first semester at law school you are assigned classes and have no say at all in what classes you take or when you take them. The school takes the full first year class and divides them up in to "small sections" of around 20 students. These 20 students will generally have all the same classes together. With the exception of a couple of your classes they will follow you for the whole first year so you really get a chance to get to know a small group of people well. When putting together the bigger classes they will usually take 3 - 4 small sections and put them in the same class.

After meeting with our small sections we basically got some tours of the facilities, hung around and got to know each other a bit and figured out where we were supposed to be. All and all it was both an exciting and exhausting day.

Thursday:
The big theme for Thursday was to get an idea of what the next few years of our lives were going to be about. We had some great presentations in the morning and a really good student panel at lunch. The afternoon gave us all a chance to find out more information about the various clubs around campus and get an idea of what types of groups we would like to be involved in. Nothing too exciting but all really important stuff.

Friday:
This was the fun stuff. We spent the morning in court watching some of the daily goings on. Those of us that went to the Superior court had a chance to meet with the Presiding Judge and then we headed back for some presentations on ethics and responsibility and hey lucky me I got cold called by the guy whose name was on the door of the auditorium. No pressure there. I guess it was nice to get that out of the way quickly though.

All and all it was a great time and I really enjoyed getting a chance to meet some of the people I'll be spending a big chunk of time with over the next few years. I think it's safe to say I'm oriented now and ready to just get this ball rolling.
