Champions Selected; Up Next ProBowl & SuperBowl

So we were treated to a couple of great, close games last week, and now we can get ready for the ProBowl, followed by another game.

About Last Week
BAL @ NE (NE -5.5)
Prediction: NE 28 - BAL 17
Well, missed this one by a little, but still managed to cover. Nothing major to really say either way. Tom Brady probably summed up his own performance perfectly, when he said he played awful. Managed to squeak out a win, but didn't cover. Thank the maker we don't have to watch the Flacco facial hair dilemma in the Superbowl.

NE 23 - BAL 20

Straight up - Got it
Vs. Spread - Swing & miss

NYG @ SF (SF -1)
Prediction: NYG 24 - SF 17
This one was probably the most boring OT game ever. Seriously, it was good football, but I just wasn't really all that in to it. I feel absolutely awful for Williams though. Seriously folks, death threats. So what, you're not going to the Superbowl, enjoy making fun of you brethren across the bay and move on. Damn you had a great season. If you really want to blame anyone, how about the coaching staff. You know he already screwed up one, and he's been fumble prone through college, tell him to go out there and fair catch it and be done with it.

Superbowl Predictions
NYG @ NE (NE -1)
I'm going to keep this one a little bit shorter, but mainly cause I don't have a ton to say. This is the match-up I was most looking forward to. Even though Coughlin and Eli have had Belicheck & Brady's number since SB42, I just feel like this is the one where they will get creamed. I don't know, In the previous match-ups Brady seemed borderline bored in the contests. Bill didn't even bother to really make any adjustments. This game just feels different. With that said.

Prediction: NYG 31 - NE 38
I think this one is going to be the shootout that SB42 was supposed to be. In that case I'm giving the edge to Brady.

Oregon note
On a side note, I was really happy to hear that Chip Kelly has decided to stick around Oregon for a little bit longer. Many people seem to think it was because he wanted to try for a title. Personally I think this decision came down to something most people aren't really thinking about. The Tampa Bay job sucks. It's a crappy place to try and run a football team, and the ownership isn't exactly wonderful. These guys ousted Tony Dungy after a playoff year, and didn't exactly stand by Gruden. Since 99.999999% of all the college coaches suck in the NFL, my belief is Chip Kelly is looking at his eventual shot as wanting to get there in a better situation.

With that being said, there are two coaches who both have pretty good jobs who might coach their final game next week, While it's hard to imagine either of them retiring, some guys would love to end their careers on top. Watch out for the winning coach to call it good, and then we might see Kelly take the jump. Otherwise, provided he keeps doing well, I wouldn't be shocked to see him take a job with another team that might have an opening that would be a great opportunity next year. For the sake of argument, we'll assume everyone who was just hired survives next year. I'll also ignore those that are highly unlikely, (except the above mentioned).

Off limits teams: SF, STL, OAK, KC, DEN, GB, DET, PIT, BAL, NO, CAR, IND, HOU, TEN, JAX, MIA

Potential jobs better than Tampa

NYG/NE - If either retires, these are the perfect jobs to come in to. Good owners, who are PATIENT, and will allow a program to develop.

PHI - Andy Reid has been great, but I'm sure the "so close" every year is starting to wear down management. Much like Jeff Fisher last year, sometimes you just need to make a change. The players in this organization would also be an excellent fit in a "pro" style of the offense the Chip likes to run.

SD - How the heck Norv Turner kept his job can only be explained by some incriminating photos of some high up people in the Chargers organization.

NYJ - Rex's game is probably getting more tiresome by the minute for folks within the organization.

CHI - Lovie had the team on the right track, but another bad year could be the end for him.

ATL - Another year, another mediocre team. Can see this one coming open next year.

Jobs equal to or worse than Tampa

WAS - At least here he's get PAID

DAL - Jerry Jones

AZ - Unless a good QB winds up here, this is a bad place.

SEA - I don't really think it's going to come up, it's not horrible, but about equal to TB.

MIN - Ugh.

CIN - Marvin is probably safe, but this is a madhouse.

CLE - It's Cleveland

BUF - It's Buffalo

With all that said I think there is a small amount of "unfinished" business, but there is also a smart guy who is looking for the right opportunity, not just any opportunity. This move is not about money, he can make $4+ Million (with progressive increases) for the next 30 years at Oregon and be safe. He won a Rose Bowl, and got to a title game. This decision is all about "fit".

Playoff Results
Straight Up - 8 - 2
Vs. Spread - 8 - 2
