Superbowl Thoughts & NBA musings

So I don't have much to say on, what I felt, was a pretty dull Superbowl game.
Superbowl - I thought it was an OK game but rather dull. Both coaches used pretty much vanilla strategies in an effort to hide their weaknesses. It worked out better for the Giants than it did for the Pats.

One thing that has come out of this is the whole Eli > Brady discussion. This is pure nonsense. The only category that Eli Manning has a leg up on Tom Brady is head to head Superbowl victories. If that's your criteria for best QB, then you are a freaking moron. For a quick comparison of how ridiculous this sort of statement is....
I'll use record and Passer rating TDs & INTs, but usually you can use whatever measure you like on these.

Name, Record, Passer rating, Tds, INTs
SB III
Joe Namath: 62-63-4, 65.5, 173, 220
Johnny Unitas: 118-64-4, 78.2, 290, 253

SB XXI
Phil Simms: 95-64-0, 78.5, 199, 157
John Elway: 148-82-1, 79.9, 300, 226

SB XXII
Doug Williams: 38-42-1, 69.4, 100, 93
John Elway: 148-82-1, 79.9, 300, 226

SB XXV
Jeff Hostetler: 51-32-0, 80.5, 94, 71
Jim Kelly: 101-59-0, 84.4, 237, 175

SB XXVI
Mark Rypien: 47-31-0, 78.9, 115, 88
Jim Kelly: 101-59-0, 84.4, 237, 175

And we'll close up with Brady/Manning

Eli Manning: 69-50-0, 82.1, 185, 129
Tom Brady: 124-35-0, 96.4, 300, 115

So that should really put to rest any BS that Eli Manning is better than Tom Brady.

NBA Musings
First congrats to L.A. for making the All-Star game. Well deserved, though personally I would prefer he get some much needed time off. Which brings me to my next point. I love/hate this shortened season. I love the fewer games. 82 is way too many. That number should be a lower, more manageable number. This season has that, but for some retarded reason (money) they decided to put 66 games in to a window normally designed for about 55 - 60. I would have been fine with the upper limit, but seriously .this season is just weird. It seems to be more about when you catch somebody, rather than how good you are.

That said, there are some problems in Blazerland I'm hoping can get resolved, and I think the only clear way to do it is to rent a player, that player being Steve Nash. My proposed trade. In addition if you throw in $3 million of Paul Allen's money, and a couple draft picks, this should get Phoenix on board. If you had to give up Nic Batum I would only do this if it involved a longer term player, and frankly at this point I would feel better about sending Matthews and moving Nic to the 2. Another one that might work is this. But I'm not sure (without cash/picks) why San Antonio would do it. I would love to see Parker/Batum paired up in the NBA.

Ah well. That's all I've got for now, till next time.
